The Purpose

We are making history. On September 17th in Sioux Falls we are launching a first of its kind petition drive calling on our Senator John Thune, the current Republican Majority Leader, to uphold his oath to the U.S. Constitution.

In 1787, 39 delegates to the Constitutional Convention, representing 12 states (all but Rhode Island, which declined to send delegates), gathered at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for what would become a four-month-long Constitutional Convention.

Signed on September 17, 1787, and "Done in convention by the unanimous consent of the states present" the Constitution of the United States laid out the framework of the nation's federal government, and in doing so, delineated how its 3 branches (legislative, executive, and judicial) are to function.

Congressional Oath of Office

When sworn in, each member of Congress takes this Oath.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

We believe Senator John Thune, the current Republican Majority Leader, has failed to uphold that oath.
